The anatomy of a useful prompt
A useful prompt describes the result you need and gives the model enough evidence and constraints to produce it. A persona can help set perspective, but it does not grant expertise or guarantee accuracy.
- Goal: what should the output accomplish?
- Context: who is it for, and what source material matters?
- Constraints: what must be included, excluded, or verified?
- Output: specify format, length, and level of detail.
- Quality checks: define what a usable answer looks like.
A practical structure
GOAL: Create a six-slide project update. CONTEXT: Leadership audience; use only the supplied status notes. CONSTRAINTS: Separate confirmed results, risks, and assumptions. OUTPUT: Slide title, three key points, visual suggestion, speaker note. CHECK: Flag missing metrics instead of inventing them.
